Pioneer Bluffs is a proud partner to Emil Redmon’s Cow—a growing archive of good stories from Flint Hills farm and ranch folk. The effort is led by Kansas writer, photographer, and filmmaker, Mark Feiden. In support of this important work, we have applied for and received, two generous grants from Humanities Kansas. We received support for a tangentially related project from the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural heritage.

They knew ranching before cattle trucks and stock trailers, and they likely hayed, farmed, and fed, behind a team. Many spent their days in the saddle and routinely drove cattle to distant pastures and/or railheads. If we wish to preserve the timber of this largely bygone era, we must act now.” —Mark Feiden
