Artist’s Page: Craig Ridenour, AIA
Craig is a licensed architect and attorney in Oklahoma City. Originally from Council Grove, KS and a 1964 graduate of Council Grove High School , he received his bachelors degree in art from Kansas State University, his masters degree in architecture from The University of Oklahoma and his law degree from Oklahoma City University. While at K-State he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity, captain of the K-State swimming team, and was active with FCA and Campus Crusade for Christ.
Craig has always enjoyed maintaining ties with the Flint Hills and with the Council Grove community. He has a history of involvement with Council Grove Swim Club, Morris County 4-H and FFA and enjoys a longstanding interest in Quarter Horses and the Flint Hills landscape in particular.
His technical and aesthetic interest in art and design were strongly influenced by his father, Gerald Ridenour, who was the engineer and later general manager of Flint Hills Rural Electric; and by his mother, Harriett, an art enthusiast who had a long career as an elementary school teacher at Washington School in Council Grove. Craig and his wife Patty met while they were students at K-State. She is originally from Peabody and is a former Kansas Dairy Princess.
As an architect his practice has included a focus on creating extremely high quality, handcrafted architectural renderings for other architects, and for other individuals or businesses for nearly 40 years. His work as an illustrator encompasses oil painting, watercolor painting, and ink rendering, generally of architectural or western subject matter. His illustration reflects a unique sensitivity to detail and to the accurate depiction of color as manifested by the form and values of light, shade and shadow exemplified by the particular subject matter.
In addition to his architectural and western related art, Craig has served as an adjunct instructor of design studio classes at the University of Oklahoma College of Architecture and has taught architectural rendering seminars to various groups. He also especially enjoys western photography and cowboying with rancher friends in the Flint Hills whenever the opportunity arises.
